I also love New Mexico. The summer after my senior year, and before college, I worked for Anderson Oil wher my aunt worked. We spent every weekend going on an "adventure" around NM. We were allowed to stay on a ranch where they were "rounding up the cattle." We went to Hueco, where the phone number for the ranch was "9." That was 1965..... We were allowed to go up to Ruidoso to see the ski lift Mr. Anderson was building, and then giving to the Mescalero Indians. They drove us up to the top in a snow cat. It was quite a summer!
