'Crimson Pirate' is a dormant dip whereas 'Highland Lord' is a semi-ev tet. Wouldn't tets in general tend to have larger foliage than dips? Foliage habit may also be relevant if the original evergreens, H, aurantiaca or aurantiaca 'Major', had wide leaves. I may have that latter information somewhere and will try and find it.
@admmad is it likely that two traits like that would still go together after all this time? But that's also a question you might look at where there is still green foliage to measure.
