Bob Selman at Blue Ridge Daylilies outside Asheville NC has a whole line of appliqued daylilies such as ALIEN DNA which was mentioned above. This year he has an intro called ALIENATION that to me is one of the prettiest appliques in that it is outlined in a dark purple. I have never seen that before, and I love it. From what I understand appliques are a stable trait that is passed on fairly reliably. Here is ALIENATION (hybridizer's pic):
