Your location would tell us how hot you summers are and how cold your winters are. But i like Asparagus Fern in pots, hanging pots and in ground. They stay out all year in my Zone 9a. They seem to handle drought conditions though like regular watering. And they tolerate out cold, though a freeze would be rough on them, they bounce back each spring. For variation, I use Foxtail fern as similar plant.
