I've grown out basil seeds that were 8 years old... I think you'll usually get at least some germination for years, as long as they don't get wet. I need to grow out a few favorites next year and save seeds! The wet summer slowed seed ripening this year, although if I'd covered for the first frost or two I'd probably have gotten plenty.
