I love Hoyas! I am a gardener of limited space and this plant affords me the chance to have some good flowering plants in my limited space even in a shady side. It has a succulent and non-succulent variety, and the flowers are just amazing, some are scented too. Most grow them outdoors in partial shade during Spring to Fall and hide them indoors or protect them in their greenhouse during winter season.
These are the three Hoyas I have:
Shooting Star Hoya - this one I just have indoors by our west facing window all year long. I always make this sit in standing water, it seems to prefer that. I have seen this growing in the wild, and seeing it is growing in a cool, humid area, made me understand why it likes to sit in water, I guess it compensates for our very dry environment.. So I get blooms on and off year round.
The other one I have is Hoya kerrii 'Variegata', the blooms are so beautiful and the leaves itself is heart warming to look at, it is shaped like a heart after all.
I get my blooms around June/July at the height of our hot and dry summer. During colder season, I bring this plant indoors. Leaves of this hoya are succulent, so it likes to be on the drier side, but once it is in the warmest months, it can take a bit stepped up watering, but still allow to dry out.
The other one I have is Krimson Queen Hoya , some of the leaves go tricolor and then it also have the wax looking blooms! So lovely! I also shelter this plant during the cold season. But the rest of the year, it is in the shady side of my patio.
