For really large round seeds with a very hard or thick coat I dent the coat with wire cutters and use toe nail clippers. For seeds like canna and lotus with very hard and thick coats I'll use the wire cutters to dent and a dremel with a cutting blade on it or a hack saw. If you try that, DO NOT HOLD THE SEED WITH YOUR FINGERS. Use pliers.
