I live in North Texas and I have a maple tree (I believe it is a Silver Maple) in my front yard. I found a woodpecker the other day (I think it is a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker) either eating sap or insects from the tree. After the bird left, I went to look at the tree and there is ring around the tree of little holes with a little bit of sap dripping. I saw it later on the lawn eating insects or eating something off the ground.

I see the woodpecker on a daily basis now (in my yard and my neighbor's yard) and I'm wondering if there is something I can do to help it's habitat. Should I be doing something to protect my maple tree after the woodpecker feeds? Thanks!
