Oh Sharon, how your story brought back memories of days of old. I'm so sorry you didn't have a Grandfather like mine, he never carried a cane and up to the day before his death he walked tall and straight at 79 years. Amazing for an old rancher, cowboy & gold miner. What does he have to do with your wonderful story? Grandpa & Grandma lost their youngest son, Teddy Thomas Gillis, from Tuberculosis at age 20. When I came along, and spent time with them at the 'cabin,' I remember the beautiful yellow rose that Grandma called 'Teddy's Rose.' It had climbed the side of the cabin and made it's way up through the grape arbor and up the tall Ponderosa pine that grew at the corner. Oh, it smelled so good, and had few thorns. So that rose was probably planted in the Spring of 1933. It had such pretty petals, and I looked high and low for a climber that looked like Teddy's Rose.
Your story bought me happiness and tears, as I was not able to get a cutting from Teddy's Rose. How I love ALL your memories. So, more stories, please.
