When I was in Massachusetts visiting a cousin a few years ago, we walked down a side road in the little town where she lived. On the walk we could see the backs and sides of other homes and at one place there was first a little homemade sign, painted on weathered wood . . . I would call it barn wood . . . there were the words "library ahead". Sure enough after a few feet there was a huge tree and attached to it was the 'Library". It was a wooden box made from the same barn wood with windows and a door that opened. Beside the tree there was a bench, also barn wood. People were encouraged to take a book then either return it or bring another to replace it and the only rule was to 'never leave the library empty'. I think there was a small sign beside it or on it that mentioned those 'rules'. I asked if it worked and my cousin said it did. I asked then how long it had been in place and she told me that it had probably been there for about 10 years. Wow! I thought it was such a great idea.

One of our city parks has an entrance about 2 blocks from my house. It's a really nice park maintained very well by the city. I've thought often of that Little Library I saw but have never done anything about it. I have also another similar problem, books and books and more books all over my house.

I'm anxious to see where you go with your Little Library. Maybe you will give me the push I need to do something about having one here.

Thanks, Bev. Love it!
