***UPDATE***

It's not Canna ... it's Smilax bona nox. I potted up one that looked like it was putting on new growth and what was coming out was very uncanna like so I dug up one of the Smilax that was growing in my yard and found the rhizomes. No wonder this stuff is so hard to get rid of!
