Here's one I haven't heard of before... I was out at a garden near us yesterday and the gentleman running the place suggested pounding rebar in to the ground and putting glass bottles on the top. His reasoning was that the wind in the bottles vibrates the rebar all the way down into the ground and the underground critters don't like it. He says it works for him, so I'm going to try that this summer and see how it goes.
