My fish hook remover is almost a foot long. The distance from my trigger finger to the jaws is 7-8 inches.

Once you lock the jaws of one of these on the base of a tumbleweed (to pull it up by the root) you'll never go back. It only works on the young ones (before that root gets too deep to pull up), but that's enough for me. Pop! and they're out for good.
