If your camera has a "macro" mode, you should use it to photograph close up of peonies. With regards to color, the more expensive the point and shoot camera, the better the lens and processor are and therefore better representation of color and clarity. You cannot compare a picture taken with a $100 camera to a $400 point and shoot camera.
