I'm overly familiar with California Poppy. I weed most of them out by the thousands every year. A problematic weed in this situation for the most part. I keep the reds the whites the coper tones or anything interesting like this one. The foliage is very very different. This one is back from last year so it is perennial so it's not E. caespitosa. It does have the orange hearts described about E. 'Golden West' but that one has typical foliage. This one may fall within the natural variation, the far sides of a bell curve, that any species has but I was hoping it was recognizable by it's strange leaves to someone out there as a species perhaps or it may be a hybrid too as Janet perposed. Thanks for checking this out. There is a plant next to it with the usual foliage so I'll add a picture of both in one shot so you can see how different they are. Thank you everyone.
