The weather here is crazy. Most winters we do not get much snow and the ground is dry mostly, it freezes and thaws alot and I get alot of plant heaving. It is best to mulch plants and especially those that are zone borderline. I have found that if planted in the right place and mulched heavily, there are plants that survive and do great. It is trial and error. The park has had the pineapple lily now for about 3 years and it is does nicely.
