They do self-sow generously, and for years I was thinning them out, in my daughter's garden in Utah. Not all have pointy, ferny leaves either, some are rounded at the ends like your plant. You could dig one up and see if it has fleshy, white rhizomes under there . . ?

They are hairy Elaine, both upper side of leaves as well as underside and the stems too. The very, very young ones do not have the red yet but it seems it's not long before they get the red. In my photos of the younger ones, the red just isn't showing.

One of the seeds in a mix was Papaver rhoeas. I think this could be a real possibility. This is why I really wish people would add close ups of leaves & stems in the database. It can be so helpful in IDing plants. It's not always just about the blooms. I trust photos on our website better than the general internet.
I will see about digging one up. There are plenty out there.
