Have you tried Deadline? You can encircle plants with it or lay down lines around beds, and I even put a little dollup in individual pots on tables. And amazingly, you can water over and over and over again and it still works! And whenever I lay a fresh line of it down, the next morning there are all kinds of snail and slug bodies all along the line. And it seems to work for a couple of months here.
And what's most important -- my cats are not at all interested in it and I've never had any kind of problem, so I feel safe using it around them.
Anyway, that's what really works for me.
