Kadie, it was very tuff to do. I feel with this tree that it would have needed the root removal at some point as the roots where so close together, that it would have not looked good not thinning them out. This will be the one and only time it receives this.
It seems that the true TS's are generally left and roots are trained through hanging to soften and manipulate, not caudex cut off and centipede roots form around circumference.
The TS which are Arabicums, if they have the true TS character are not usually messed with.
They are usually taller in trunk/caudex and the branches will naturally grow up, then lay flat and outwards in a horizontal fashion.
So I am told.
I am hoping that I did not trim out too many.
They do recommend that when trimming these with roots such as these. That when you repot them, you plant with soil covering the roots. Not lifted. The tree will grow bigger roots underneath the soil.
We shall see.
