I called in the troops today (my husband) to remove 2 firespike plants I had planted in December 2014. One was 10 ft wide and the other was smaller because I had been hacking at it. We got both out and sighed. Looks so much better! That plant is a thug and it tries to suffocate any other plant near it.

I'm on a barrier island just south of Daytona Beach and we really have to be careful when I plant something because my garden is small. I wanted the orange bird to grow as well as the dwarf bottlebrush. Those firespikes were trying to run right over them.

I have a purple firespike on the other side of the yard and will prune it when it stops blooming. It's 7 ft tall. I'm a Master Gardner. Honest to Pete, those MG's thought the firespike was the best thing going. What were they thinking??????
