well it is shaped strange, has it been wacked off and regrown? if so it could have re-sprouted from root stock, which means what is there is not what was grafted, if it was a grafted tree. I assume the tree grew by seed? because it is in a fence row and probably was not put there on purpose. If that's the case, the grafted thing isn't an issue. Cherry, pears, apples ect are just like other plants, some bloom early, some midseason or late. So you can't really go by that entirely. Has it ever had fruit? Some need pollinators, some are self pollinating. If the tree has never had fruit, it may need a pollinator. If that is the case you have to obtain a tree that has the same bloom season. An early blooming apple, will not pollinate a later blooming apple, because they have to bloom at the same time.
