Welcome to this site, which is friendly and quite active, and welcome to gardening. I started late in life as well, although I'm not retired yet. Lucky you! I still have 9 years before I retire, assuming I stay healthy. I enjoyed learning and sharing with my online gardening forum friends, and gardening gets me out of the house instead of on the couch.
