OK, for the first time since I first noticed the snake a couple weeks ago, it came out during the day so we were able to get a very good look at it and close up pictures of his head. He is NOT a cottonmouth (thank goodness!) but a Florida Banded water snake. These are not poisonous snakes but can still inflict a nasty bite. We will respect his space and let him stay. Smiling
