Hi Tommy. Welcome to ... I guess now we are "NGA" instead of ATP. Anyway, welcome to both!

A photo would be nice, but does the plant look unhappy in other ways? Like yellowed or dead or twisted leaves?

I have a big old Rhodie that does something similar. The buds and small early blooms are intensely red - dark red.

Then the blooms get much bigger and turn pink, then white or almost white.

It appears to be the way that variety blooms. I don't think it is sickness, because it has been doing the same thing for at least six years. Its only problem is that squirrels plant the stones from an ornamental (plum?) tree under it and then saplings rise up through it, their roots competing with my favorite Rhodie!

I wish I knew what variety it is. It had been there for years or decades when I moved in.

Hmm! It seems that I didn't save any photos where it had just started blooming, with the small red buds!
