Yep, very unusual, cold and wet Spring season. With a forecasted low temp of 34'F and with dew points after sunset running 31 and 32, I saw no need to tarp over. And besides, the wind was blowing about 10 to 15 mph and those 18' X 24' foot tarps become like giant wind sails and it's hard for even 4 people to tie down without damaging whatever you're covering. Further, a horizontal wind acts like an air dam that retards surface heat near the ground from rising. So I never gave covering a second thought, even. When I got up at 4 AM, I checked the greenhouse temp. monitor because I've moved my newly sowed seedlings in there now. I figured it would hold about 38 to 40'F without heat. It read 30.6' F. I think I spilled half my coffee. Thankfully, I got a wall switch in the kitchen for that heating unit.
In the gardens, Asiatic were not affected. About 75% of the Trumpet/ Aurelian are damaged. We'll have to just wait and see which ones will grow up through the damage. Generally, those that are the most recent to emerge have the best chance of survival.
