Daisy, you just reminded me to go check my paper cactus. When it was young, it was full of pretty white paper spines and did fall apart easily. Mine is now about 13 years old, and the paper spines are almost gone. It is very strong now, and only drops a piece occasionally. I went out and gave it a good whack, and nothing fell.
