Yes that would certainly do them in. I think our coldest was -8C but thats not normal here either and it killed lots of things that had been growing for decades. Such a big loss with those for you. $ I've strayed... Our H. coccinea has so few flowers on the inflo that when they open they obscure the unopened buds when a few flowers open.
