Not necessary to plant whole potato in the dirt- each shoot is a new plant all on its own. Leaving the potato in the water gets you new slips as well. If growing in the water, many leave the potato attached to the 'slips' ( is actually what they are called.)
So many roads to take, choices to make, and laughs to share!
