My heart just breaks when I see the horses in TX on porches of houses and the cattle swimming for their lives. I just feel so helpless. Thank God for you all who care for those who can not help themselves. I spent a few years working on a Standardbred Breeding Farm here in NJ. In fact I am a life member of the Horse Park of New Jersey and although I am 87 years old, I have mucked my share of stalls and today we have a little old pony here on the farm retired from being a school pony for many many years. If I were younger and had more acres we would have a retirement home for more. Here in NJ the Standardbred and TB racehorses are well cared for after retirement. It is so expensive here and that is a real problem. We also have a Governor who has not really helped the horse industry over the past eight years and many of our breeders have moved to other states because it was better money. My daughter is the Equine Specialist for the State of New Jersey and you can imagine how involved we are in making sure the horses are cared for. Is there anything anyone can do to help those displaced animals in TX due to this horrible flooding? Prayers for you all and please keep me posted on what is going on down there.
