About fifteen years ago, my neighbour in Robson, gave me a seedling of this plant, but had lost the name of it. I thought it was an annual,
enjoyed it's limited flowering season, but didn't give it much thought. A year or so later, I found one growing near the same place the other had been. How nice, I thought, and enjoyed it some more. From then on, I would have one or two plants spring up here and there in some of the many garden beds on our acre and a half. When we moved ten miles down the road to Castlegar, in November of 2009, it took a long time to establish garden beds, due to silty sand and poor drainage conditions. I was, however allowed to bring between 800 and 1,000 one gallon pots full of our garden plants from Robson. In the second year of gardening here - in full sun now, instead of much valued shade, I found to my delight that the wonderful Fairy Bells had hitch-hiked in the soil from Robson. I treasure those little plants and still feel that the Fairies or Angels
guide them to their spots. I didn't want to clutter the Database with too many photos, but thought I could add some more here.
The Fairies worked their magic with this first sample - they doubled some blossoms! The second photo shows the charming carefree quality of thrown back petals. So airy and elegant.
In the third photo, a flock of self-sown Campanula patula enhance the pale edging of Iris American Classic. And in the last photo, the freshly opened blossoms draw one closer, into the magical blue light in the center of the bloom.
