Frillylily, looks like you are the winner! You were the first to say Miss Jessie and that's what I've decided it is.
Cerulean Star and Fol De Rol both have too much color in the sepals, so I eliminated them. That left Miss Jessie and Cleo. I read a lot on how they have been mixed up over the years and that many of the photos of Cleo online are really Miss Jessie. Cleo is registered as orange red, but I have not really seen any photos that look that color. It is also not registered as a spider and Miss Jessie is. That may have something to do with the date it was registered. Miss Jessie is mentioned as having a fragrance and that is one of the things Mark, the man giving it to me mentioned and I could smell it in the bloom too, so that is why I'm going with Miss Jessie as the correct name. Guess we will never know unless his mother remembers the name when he mentions it to her. The other daylilies he has given me were registered in the 50's also so that makes me think most of the ones in his garden are of that era.
Looked up some info on Miss Jessie and she has 35 children. Looks like hybridizers were still using it for crosses as late as 2004. Scandinavia, one I grow is one of it's children.
Thanks to all for helping me find the name.
