The proliferation is growing from the scape. Leave the scape for now so that the prolif can get bigger. I do cut the scape above and below the prolif when it is bigger and all the buds have bloomed out. I put it just above the water in a container with the lower part of the scape IN the water. It will eventually grow roots to reach the water. I mist it daily and keep it in a semi-shady spot. When roots form, then I just transplant it to a container (or the ground). That is my method. It typically works for me unless I forget to keep water in the container. (Which has happened in the past.)
