I used the included fertilizer the first year and then got refills for the second year. Most of my problem was due to bug damage, so I guess I shouldn't really blame the earthboxes. Swiss chard and lettuce were the only things that did OK for me and both seemed to do better in the ground.
I just realized that I do still have both Ruby Dreams and Golden Dreams. In fact they are side by side in the tower.
