The unique and, to me, the most appealing charateristic of Aucuba japonica Picturata is the prominent solid yellow streak in the center of the leaf, like this:

However, leaves with streaks are rare on my plant. Most of the time my plant has leaves with small yellow spots and no streaks, although streaked leaves have occurred on rare occasions, confirming Picturata as the cultivar.

Are particular growing conditions conducive to encouraging leaves with prominent yellow streaks instead of small yellow spots on Aucuba japonica Picturata?
