As far as I know, Caladiums (Caladium) will only survive winter in-ground in zones 9 and higher; I used to be in Florida zone 9a and if we had warm winters without extended cold they would come back each year but if we had numerous frosts or a freeze they would not return. Caladiums can be planted in containers and hanging baskets and brought in during the winter months ... and many northerners grow them as annuals.
