I have thrips and they sometimes affect the blooms. Mostly though, they make the leaves on the fans ugly!!! I don't know what is worse .... rust or thrips or leaf streak. (This year, rust seems to be the least of my garden problems as thrips and leaf streak seem to be the main issues!) They all make the foliage very unsightly. I use insectical soap that has Spinosad in it to treat thrips.
