Moose, late to the discussion but this year I had pretty good luck with cherry tomatoes in containers (16" W x 14" H.) Seems like the important factors are full sun and regular water. My containers are on the edge of my front porch, which faces south and I water every other day. Had some success with "better boy" but I'm not patient enough to wait for their maturity and the squirrels seem to want a bite occasionally. Mostly use Miracle Grow bag soil from ........ . Got so hot this year I just didn't have the energy to battle the heat to pick them. Neighbor took some but I'm watching them fall off the vine.
