Stush, I can't encourage or discourage you because I'm not fully aware of all of the variables you might have but in general, I've had a blast putting my plants in ground when weather permits. There have been a few instances of armadillo & squirrel damage, and weather incidents, any risks should be assessed by each plant'ster. You can't just (as) quickly grab a plant in the ground & run inside with it...
Putting my few plants in the ground the past couple summers has yielded great results, all upright growth. During their stay inside, they don't do much because they aren't given priority near a window. Hopefully having a GH will help with my winter etiolation issues, the time will be here soon... shudder! I just want my plants to look/be healthy & *bloom* when appropriate.
The dangling look is cool, I wasn't knocking it. I've put some Stapelia in a hanging pot last weekend with the thought that it might dangle over the edge sooner or later.
