I did not respond to your first post but my thought is that color variety is the spice of life and that nothing clashes in nature. With yellow, I would plant purple. With purple, I would plant orange. Look at a color wheel and plant the color opposite.
On the other hand, my mother thought flower colors do clash and worked hard at matching her colors.
