This is a pretty drought tolerant plant. The flowers here don't seem to be as vivid a blue, though - they are somewhere between a medium and a washed denim blue, if that makes sense. I can verify that it is indeed deer resistant, as our neighborhood is plagued with deer, but they don't bother it.

We have it on our front island, where it gets maybe half a day of shade. It blooms in late spring/early (to mid?) summer. I don't know if it is supposed to rebloom or not, but after that first flush of bloom (there is a lot of it) it does not seem to bloom more. (In short, it is not constantly making new blooms like, say, Salvia 'Heatwave Glimmer' does - but then again, it is an entirely different species, or hybrid of species.)

We leave the old flower heads and branching on until the fall, and maybe even (because I procrastinate on everything) until it is almost time to put the exterior Christmas lights out. (It is supposed to be pruned back by maybe 1/3 to 1/2 each fall, if I got that right. But as I said, I always put the job off.)

We have it growing with some kind of creeping (? barberry ?) groundcover, and some nearby Calamagrostis. This year we also had some volunteer Verbena bonariensis pop up nearby. The Verbena is taller than this Salvia, but the two seemed to go well together.
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom
