Roman is one of few that cut a ring around the edge after sealing or covering the bottom. He will get more roots out to the side faster then the Thailand version of just cutting off the root and putting a plastic disc to cover the area. Raman's cutting seems to make the roots go our straight.
I have done this on one of my root stock, I like the look of roots running along the soil with a short caudex and an umbrella of branches and flowers. Yes this takes time and manipulation.
Roman uses powdered cement he just adds water to. The bottle is just root hormone.
