He's still so fluffy and cute though. On the Zika thing, first of all in my opinion it's being way overblown by the media. We can't prevent the spread of Zika until a vaccine is available because there will always be some mosquitoes.
I think until the medical boffins develop the vaccination for it, we just have to be super careful not to get bitten, and yes, mosquito control is part of that. But here in Florida, all County governments have done mosquito abatement for years. They know how to do it right and generally do a good job. People are in a panic about Zika even though there are not many areas that have seen it so far even in Florida. Plus, as seen on the news when some careless person at a County abatement department got over-zealous, millions of bees were also killed by the extra spraying that was done incorrectly. Talk about doing more harm than good!
The actual illness you get from Zika is not that terrible for most people although just like flu and other things, it can progress to dangerous stuff like pneumonia in elderly folks and those with immune deficiency. The effect on babies born to Zika infected mothers is the really serious result of Zika. If you're not a woman of child-bearing age, it's not that serious.
I have always either filled up the cups of my bromeliads with coffee grounds, or sprinkled Mosquito Bits (which are small pieces of Mosquito Dunk, that come in a jar) into them. I never see any mosquito larvae in the cups of my broms.
