I have always been meaning to get some red spider lilies. I found a secluded nursery two days ago. It was hidden down a drive way in suburbia on the mainland. Wondrously, Water Dragons Physignathus lesueurii lined the road. Some very big 4' ones sunning.

No red spiders but I noticed a red spear lily, which I happily bought.

It turned out to be a large Australian native Doryanthes palmeri. Apparently the leaves grow to 3 metres long with a flowering stem 3-5 metres. It is slow to establish and flowering taking up to 10 years. This is quite exciting but always a challenge as a gardener when you are already near your own life expectancy.

Here goes.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.
