The orb weavers aren't aggressive spiders, and very quick to get out of the way if they see you coming towards their webs. I'm pretty sure I've never been bitten or even had one on me in 15 years of gardening in my jungle here. It's the ants that are the nasty biters. Everybody knows about fire ants, but this is an ant that I get bitten by occasionally and it's really nasty, too:
