I keep mine out until the first frost, then I cat back to the bottom outside of basket and move them to the garage. They stay dormant Nov to March. First part of April I prune back heavy and put them in the greenhouse. I want as little of old wood as possible, plant deals with hot weather better if all main stems are new growth. I have some that are 10+ years old. I repot every three years or so. They make a four foot diameter ball of flowers.
