I've found a workaround now but it likely won't work for all devices and won't work if Apple changes the layout of Safari, but flaflwrgirl mentioned in the other thread that activating the bookmarks bar pushes the text of the posts away from the left edge of the screen. That's a plus but the other plus is that adding the forums list to the bookmarks restores one click access, and it's from the left side too
