The day has finally come, I'm sad to say. The day I harvest my entire garden.
(minus my green peppers, those buggers are still producing like crazy!) I tested something this year, that turned out much better than I expected.
This year, the Old Farmers Almanac predicted a pretty hot and dry summer for my area. So I prepared my garden with ground cover and mulch to help reduce weeds and hold in water better. I'm not gonna lie to ya, it wasn't all too easy to put together, but I it was so worth it. When my city was dried up and nearly dead, my garden not only survived, it flourished! I would recommend it if your expecting an unusual hot/dry summer next year. (just make sure your getting a good/clean mulch. You don't want any negative bugs or nasties in your plants.)
My hubby and I also planted a large section in our front yard of ever green trees (for privacy) and I used the mulch today from my garden, to fill in the trees. This way, I don't have to waste all that mulch and I can also save $$$. (saved me at least $100 actually)
Here's a few pics of what I did. I just finished transporting the mulch from my garden to the trees today. This will help hold my trees during the harsh winter. Not to mention when it's all said and done, it'll look good too. Just needs the edging to go in.
Half of it still has ground cover, that's why it looks red on one side. lol.
The ground cover and mulch also kept these babies healthy during our drought. (There's about 25 here btw, sorry about that crummy picture. It's a bad spot to get a decent photo lol)
