Butterflies Native Plants and Wildflowers Region: Texas
Retrovertigo,

Well, let me be the first to thank you for having posted this. There is some good advice in there that I think could benefit most anyone.

Dry molasses is one of the things suggested here in Central Texas. I just wish we had access to seaweed that we could incorporate into our gardens. But, nonetheless, several good amendments are suggested. I did a recent study on Bentonite and have found that it is the same product that Tractor Supply sells or any of the Auto stores for mechanics to throw down on the shop floor to absorb oil. you can buy it by the bag. I hope to incorporate some here. People can do their own test by measuring an amount, say 2 cups an putting in a bowl. Add 2 cups of water. Give it just a couple of minutes, then drain the bowl back into the cup to see how much water was absorbed. Just don't add too much. You don't want a muddy spot. But, it's a good way to add a good amendment. Just mix it in thoroughly.

Thanks for your tip and the link, too!
Thank You!
