Our water is hard too, and we've had a whole house water softener for decades. I love my soft water, and I whine like crazy about the hard water in hotels, rentals, etc.
Our tap water isn't filtered at all, but it tastes fine to me. I have allergies and a stuffy nose most of the time and breathe through my mouth a lot. Hence, I get thirsty and drink a lot of water. I'm sipping a glass now. I like water.
