It's been several years since I stopped in to see the daylilies at Maryott's so when we got the notice that he was going to have an open garden, my Mom and I jumped at the chance to go visit again. Betty also was able to come, (this was our second time meeting, hubby and I stopped by her place back in March when we were on a mini road trip)
Bill is out on the coast (4 miles from the water actually) where it is quite common to have overcast fog during the summer months. Most of the time it burns off eventually but he said that sometimes it's like that all day. We had overcast all day with a couple of light drizzles. He said this is not the place to come and see how the daylilies open, that's for the greenhouse and all the folks back east.
So what you'll see in these images are deeper colors from the cool weather and well as spotting from the dampness and of course, blooms not opening as full and lush as those folks with warm nights.

Bill grows his sale plants on their 5 acre property plus he leases 3 acres from the neighbor for his seedlings.
He gave Betty, my Mom and I a tour of the greenhouse, showing us his methods of hybridizing and then explained how he plants them out into the field and selects them fro further evaluation. He just loves what he does and is so enthusiastic in sharing his knowledge with others!

Betty, outstanding in the field!

No display beds here, they are all in rows, he uses a machine that makes the mounds for growing strawberries. Not easy for a visitor to walk through (my first visit, it was muddy in spots, I had a major slipping mishap, my Mom still laughs about it, remembering how both my feet flew up in the air!)
